Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made it clear on Dec. 16 that he has no intention of attending the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, The Epoch Times reported.
In its response, Kong Xuanyou—Chinese Ambassador to Japan—asked Tokyo to support its Olympic games.
Kong said that the Beijing Winter Olympics are being “used by many countries as a political tool”. He advised Japan to treat its Olympic games kindly.
In his statement, Kong also blamed some people in Japan who had spread rumors of the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
So far, many countries such as the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada, have announced a “diplomatic boycott” of the Beijing Winter Olympics because of the CCP’s relentless violations of human rights.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that no one cares whether these people will attend the Beijing 2022 Olympics or not. He, on the other hand, threatened that countries that do not send representatives to attend the event “will have to pay for their wrongdoings.”
The Chinese ambassador’s response comes right after Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics.
Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper published an exclusive report on Dec. 11 saying that Japan will join a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and will not send high-ranking officials to attend the event.
According to Japanese government sources and the LDP party, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, however, is still considering many options, including appointing the President of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee Hashimoto Seiko to attend the games.
Voice of America reported that Masumi Kawasaki, a professor at Tokyo International University, believes that the CCP is continuing to pressure the Japanese government with the message that Japan does not “forget China strongly supports the World Tokyo Olympics.”
Japan expert Xie Wensheng said that Japan is an important link in the process of the free world “encircling” the CCP during the Beijing Olympic Games.
