The New York Police Department released a distressing video on Twitter Saturday, July 24. It showed a man hitting and kicking another man’s head in broad daylight until the victim was unconscious and then robbing him.
The 68-year-old male victim was beaten up in broad daylight in Brooklyn, and the brutal attack was captured on video.
The terrifying 17-second clip from the 9 a.m. attack at Pitkin Avenue and Barbey Street in Brooklyn showed the victim riding a Citi Bike being approached by the suspect, who tapped the victim’s pocket as he demanded property from him.
A Black man wearing a mask and a gray hoodie is seen in the video throwing several punches at the victim, who appears to fight back before getting beaten to the ground. The attacker repeatedly smacks the victim in the head, and as the victim tries to get up, the attacker delivers a final blow by kicking him hard in the back of the head.
When the victim is unconscious, the suspect uses the man’s belt loops to flip him over and search his front and back pants pockets, snatching a cellphone and a silver necklace. The criminal then ran west on Pitkin Avenue, according to police sources.
According to a tweet from the NYPD, the 68-year-old victim suffered a broken wrist and nose.
The robbery suspect’s identity is still being sought by police, and a reward of $3,500 is offered for any information to help catch the suspect.
“These are NYC streets! What used to be the safest big city sent back to the days of high crime due to failed laws that allow no consequences and embolden criminals,” tweeted the Detectives’ Endowment Association.
“Politicians in Albany and City Hall need to step up now to fix their mistakes and keep New Yorkers safe.”
More and more people began to react to the video.
