The former Oregon House Speaker and current Clackamas Community College board member Dave Hunt (D-North Clackamas) was arrested by Portland police and cited on a charge for an April sex trafficking sting operation in which he was caught red-handed.
Hunt was one of eight men arrested in a sex trafficking sting by Portland police last month, the New York Post reported Monday.
Hunt, 53, a Democrat, served as State Representative for District 40 of the Oregon House of Representatives representing Clackamas County from 2003 to 2013. He served two years as House majority leader, followed by two years as speaker.
He was arrested when stopped by police while driving his vehicle in Southeast Portland on April 28 and cited on commercial sex solicitation charges.
Paradoxically, in his years as a legislator, Hunt was one of the sponsors of a bill criminalizing sex trafficking in 2007. In 2011, he also voted for HB 2714, legislation instituting the crime of commercial sexual solicitation, the crime for which he happened to be arrested and cited.
The police bureau posted online decoy ads on certain known human trafficking websites during the month of April, and the subjects who “contacted undercover police officers to arrange payment for sexual acts” were arrested and cited for the charge of commercial sexual solicitation, which is a criminal offense.
The Portland Police Bureau issued a press release on May 1, reporting that its Human Trafficking Unit had cited eight men in an April operation.
The release did not name those subpoenaed, but said the list was available upon request to the press. Local media requested the list and received it on Monday morning, May 3. To everyone’s surprise, it included “David Hunt, 53, of Milwaukie.”
The Human Trafficking Unit is one of the oldest units of the Portland police, which over the past year has been severely hampered and limited in its work due to riots by violent leftists that decimated the city’s police personnel. But in recent months they have managed to return to their necessary action.
Hunt thus joins the list of Democrats who in recent months have been accused and prosecuted for sex crimes.
Robert Emmanuel Jacob, former mayor of Sebastopol (California), was arrested on Saturday, April 10, for 11 counts of sexual assault, including lewd acts against a minor under the age of 14 or 15 and sending pornographic material to seduce minors, Fox News reported.
The most paradigmatic case is undoubtedly that of the Democratic governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, who is embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal after several women denounced him for having sexually harassed them and for displaying inappropriate and even violent behavior.
