The Washington Post-ABC News poll, released on Tuesday, Sept. 7, showed that 72% of unvaccinated Americans would rather quit their job than accept a required COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the poll’s results, reported by the Daily Caller, only 16% of unvaccinated workers would get the COVID-19 dose if required, 35% would ask for a medical or religious exemption, and 42% would quit their job.

But if a medical or religious exemption were not available, which essentially is the case for Washington state employees, 72% said they would quit their job, while 18% said they would get the shot.

The poll surveyed 1,066 U.S. adults between Aug. 20 and Sept. 1.

Meanwhile, another survey released on Sept. 1 indicated that more than half of U.S. businesses plan to have some sort of vaccine requirement by the end of this year.

The poll, conducted by Willis Towers Watson with 961 American employers between Aug. 18 and Aug. 25, showed that 52% of them could have one or more vaccine mandate requirements in the workplace by the fourth quarter of 2021.

The results showed that 59% of employers are tracking their workers’ vaccination status, and another 19% are planning or considering doing so later this year.

These surveys came amid President Joe Biden’s calling for employers in the private sector to require their employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 after the Food and Drug Administration granted full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

“I’m calling on more country—more companies, I should say, in the private sector to step up with vaccine requirements that’ll reach millions more people,” Biden said in remarks from Eisenhower Executive Office Building at the White House on Aug. 23.

“If you’re a business leader, a non-profit leader, a state or local leader who has been waiting for full FDA approval to require vaccinations, I call on you now to do that—require it. Do what I did last month and require your employees to get vaccinated or face strict requirements,” he added.

In July, he pointed to the vaccine-or-test mandate for federal workers as a model.
