A 30-year-old physical therapist in Florida was arrested after a nurse saw him sexually assaulting a female patient, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Late on Monday night, Feb. 10, deputies were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Riverview to investigate an alleged assault.
According to the nurse on duty, someone had sounded an alarm in the room of a 75-year-old female patient.
After checking a live feed of the patient’s room, the nurse said she witnessed Regginald Jackson, who is employed as a physical therapist at the hospital, sexually assaulting the patient.
Jackson has been a licensed physical therapist in Florida for nearly three years, and has had no prior incidents or complaints, according to Department of Health records.
Detectives said they tried to question Jackson about the incident, but he refused to comment.
“This is an appalling breach of trust and abuse by a person who is trained and paid to look out for the well-being of patients,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “I am disgusted by the actions of Regginald Jackson, and we will work diligently to find out if there are others who have been victimized by him in the past to ensure that justice is served.”
Jackson was charged with one count of sexual battery, Fox13 News reported.
Investigators suspect more patients may have been victimized by Jackson. They’re asking anyone with information on other incidents involving Jackson to call the agency at 813-247-8200. Anonymous tips can be submitted to 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
