A former Navy SEAL has explained how Brian Laundrie may be hiding his location to avoid police arrest.
Lambert spent a decade as a Navy SEAL and was also the star of the TV show “Lone Target.” He had 48 hours in each episode to escape the world’s top fugitive trackers, including the Korean National Police and the U.S. Army’s Phantom Recon Unit, The Sun reported.
Lambert, speaking from personal experience, believes Laundrie may be hiding in a swamp to avoid being discovered by the FBI since it is easy to hide your trail.
However, Lambert claims that Laundrie, 23, has a disadvantage when it comes to staying hidden: everyone is familiar with his appearance.
“I was kind of a blank slate that I could go in and create whatever narrative I wanted to, Brian Laundrie doesn’t have that luxury. He’s a wanted man,” Lambert added.
Gabby Petito’s fiancé was first reported missing by his parents on Sept. 17. They told authorities at the time that they had not seen Laundrie since he went hiking on Sept. 14.
Brian Laundrie’s attorney, Steven Bertolino told WFLA on Tuesday that his clients’ parents now believe he left on Sept. 13 to go hiking.
“The Laundries were basing the date Brian left on their recollection of certain events,” Bertolino said in a statement to WFLA. “Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday, Sept. 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday, Sept. 13.”
According to survival expert Dave Canterbury, if Laundrie had packed enough supplies in a bag to evade capture at the reserve, he could still be alive today.
“I think a lot of that depends really on how prepared he was when he entered the area to begin with,” he told CNN.
“If he had supplies in a backpack, which it’s rumored that he had, if he had ways to disinfect water through filtration and cover to protect himself from the weather and things like that, he could survive for a certain period of time,” said Canterbury.
“But if he had ways to gather food and process that food he could survive even longer.” he added.
Even though Laundrie is familiar with the Carlton Nature Reserve in Sarasota, Florida, where many assume he is hiding, former Navy SEAL Lambert believes he will be found soon.
