Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Tex.) announced that he will close all facilities used by the federal government to house illegal immigrants. He requested on more than one occasion that Biden administration officials solve the problems created by open borders. Among other things has been the increase in drug trafficking and human trafficking in Texas.

According to Politico, Abbott’s order will take effect on August 31. About 52 shelters will be forced to stop caring for unaccompanied minors when their license to operate is withdrawn.

There are an estimated 4,500 illegal immigrants in these facilities used by the federal government but run by the state. Without a license to operate, the federal government will have to look for other alternatives to house the immigrants.

Abbott’s decision comes after several fruitless requests to Biden administration officials to close the borders that harm his state’s community.

In a letter he sent to the secretary of health and human services, Abbott said, “The federal government must solve the federal problem caused by the Biden administration’s disastrous open-border policies. Texas will not be commandeered into federal government service.”

The Biden administration said it is exploring the legal aspects of Abbott’s order and considering what steps to take in response.

According to Breitbart, the total number of illegal alien children released across the United States between Oct. 2020 and May 2021 was 44,265. This compares to 16,837 released between Oct. 2019 and Sept. 2020, a 275% increase in just one year.

What is the state of the facilities that Abbott wants to close

A report published by the BBC showed secretly filmed video from inside Texas facilities. The footage revealed that migrant children are exposed to disease, dangerous food, and sexual abuse during their confinement.

The investigation focused on a tent facility erected at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, Texas, that currently houses more than 2,000 unaccompanied minors who illegally crossed the border from Mexico into Texas.

The BBC discovered that staff members were sexually abusing the children. In a secret recording, one staff member said, “We have already caught staff with minors inappropriately.”

Another staff member told reporters, “DHS mentioned there was a rape—they are giving the girls pregnancy tests,” the staff member told the BBC. “And I heard the other night that another contractor was caught in a boys’ tent, you know, doing things with him.”

The children there also complained that they are served raw meat, and because they are hungry they eat it, but then they get sick. In addition, there is a “plague’ of lice” because there are not enough remedies avaliable to combat them.

In May, Abbott released a statement condemning the Biden administration because open borders also brought the scourge of drugs to his community. “Lives are at stake as dangerous drugs like fentanyl pours into our communities at an astonishing rate, and we must act now to crack down on this proliferation of this deadly drug.

“From Tarrant County to Lubbock County, fentanyl is wreaking havoc in our communities and it is essential for parents, family members, schools, and more to get fully engaged to prevent future fentanyl deaths. President Biden’s open border policies have led to a surge in this deadly drug coming into our communities,” he added.

As soon as he took office as president, Biden reversed popular policies that former President Trump adopted to curb illegal immigration, which also had an effect on decreasing human trafficking, drug smuggling, etc.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has made repeated statements in the media assuring that his top priority was the welfare of immigrants.
