An elected official responsible for ensuring the Democratic Party passes legislation in the House was caught saying she wants to ruin the president’s chances of being re-elected.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) wants to eliminate any hope of President Trump returning to the Oval Office for another four years.
Pelosi revealed the House Democrat-led effort to impeach the president a second time is part of a broader party strategy to stop the Republicans from holding onto the White House.
“That is one of the motivations that people have for advocating for impeachment,” she told “60 Minutes.”
The remarks came after CBS reporter Lesley Stahl asked the Democrat what she thinks about speculation that President Trump could run for office at the 2024 general election.
“There is a possibility that after all of this, there is no punishment, no consequence, and he could run again for president,” she said.
Pelosi called President Trump severely mentally disordered and worthy of capital punishment.
“Well, sadly, the person who is running the executive branch is a deranged, unhinged, dangerous president of the United States,” she said in a video shared on Twitter.
She also admitted the outcome of the second impeachment inquiry was already decided.
“I like the 25th Amendment because it gets rid of him, he is out of office, but there is strong support in the Congress for impeaching the president a second time,” she said. “This president is guilty of inciting insurrection. He has to pay a price for that.”
Pelosi reiterated she was counting down the days until President Trump’s first term ends, could not wait for the incumbent to depart the Oval Office, and will try to impeach him a second time.
“There are only a number of days until we can be protected from him, but he has done something so serious that there should be prosecution against him,” she said.
She is still pursuing the 25th Amendment, even though President Trump’s term may end before any decision could be reached.
“No, it [the 25th Amendment] is not—nothing is off the table,” she said in the video.
“If the vice president and Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment,” she added. “That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus and the American people, by the way … while it is only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show for America.”
