Kidnapping cases are still common, although the number of kidnappings has decreased significantly compared to the past. According to FBI data, 99% of the 17,000 alleged abduction cases recorded each year are cleared. However, approximately 200 attempted kidnappings remain unsolved each year.

In the most common scenario, the victim is typically confined to a darkened car truck and driven to an unknown location, where they are never seen again. However, there is an easy method for you to exit the car that you might not be aware of.

Here are some expert recommendations to help you out.

National law requires all American cars manufactured after 2002 to have a trunk release inside the trunk. It will almost always be a glow-in-the-dark handle near the trunk latch, but it may also be a rope, ring, or toggle switch or a non-glow-in-the-dark handle. It makes it possible for anyone to open it up.

But of course, people that are in car trunks are in pitch darkness and frequently have difficulty finding it. If you can not find it, it is either missing or destroyed. If you have a mobile phone, call the cops and give them as many details as you can about the car you are in and your current location so the cops can find it.

Brittany Diggs, a survivor who was abducted and trapped in the trunk of a car in Alabama, luckily survived because she had known this trick before.

Unlike Diggs, not all victims are aware of the trick ahead of time.

The Today Show ran a test to see if viewers could figure out where this latch was hidden.

In a matter of seconds, the first volunteer was on her way out. Then they tried once more. Quite a few people have escaped. However, the vast majority of people struggle.

The key is to relax and search in the dark for the glow pin. In the darkness, the pegs still shine. You should be able to get out if you know that.
