The Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers held a meeting on May 14. According to Reuters, the G7 agreed to reinforce Russia’s economic and political isolation and provide Ukraine with military and defense assistance.

Held at Weissenhaus, Germany, the meeting was attended by senior diplomats from Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United States, and the European Union.

As CNN reported, the group called on China “not to assist Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine, not to undermine sanctions imposed on Russia for its attack against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,”

The G7 also urged China not to justify Russian action in Ukraine. In addition, they asked Beijing to stop engaging in information manipulation, disinformation, and other means of legitimizing Russia’s war.

According to the joint statement, the G7 said they would respond to misinformation from Russia. They also accused Moscow of blaming the West for the food supply crisis worldwide owing to economic sanctions on Moscow.

They plan to put more pressure on Russia by phasing out or banning Russian coal and oil imports.

The ministers announced that there would be further restrictions on Russian elites.

Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine on February 24. As a result, Western countries started to impose broad sanctions against Russia.
