On the eve of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, many places in the mainland were locked down and tightly controlled, causing people to complain everywhere.

On September 13, the official website of the National Health Commission published a report related to the proposal of the National People’s Congress for completely eradicating mosquitoes. Naturally, such news has caused a flood of netizens’ mocking and criticisms.

The next day, Sina newspaper reported the National Health Commission’s response to “Proposal No. 5749 for the complete eradication of mosquitoes” during the 13th National People’s Congress. The report said they would reinforce the implementation of patriotic health campaigns to improve people’s living conditions. In addition, the campaign would intensify research on Biological control of vector technology and reduce the density of mosquitoes.

As soon as the report was released, the topic “The National Assembly member proposes to completely eliminate mosquitoes” immediately became a hot search on Weibo. They were prompting many netizens to leave mocking criticism in the comment section.

The Sound of Hope newspaper quoted some netizens as saying:

  • “Isn’t it obvious that as the government can’t eradicate the epidemic, they change their target to eradicate the mosquitoes???
  • “Can you propose something else that slightly makes sense?
  • “Complete extermination of mosquitoes—isn’t it a new campaign to eliminate the four evils? (The four evils, including rats, sparrows, flies, and mosquitoes, were the first campaign of the CCP’s 1958 to 1962 Great Leap Forward movement).
  • “Let’s be more practical by starting first with reducing poverty for a little bit.
  • “What a metaphor of the times!!! Now the government imagines the mosquitoes as viruses.
  • “The epidemic wipes out everything, let alone mosquitoes.”

Some netizens criticized that the current epidemic has caused travel inconvenience and a lack of supplies for residents in the controlled area. Solving the problem of people’s livelihood is more practical than completely eradicating mosquitoes. Moreover, netizens doubted whether the delegates lived in the same time and space as their people.

Since the COVID pandemic broke out in mainland China over two years ago, the Chinese regime has always adhered to the policy of “Zero-covid,” resulting in economic recession and adverse impacts on people’s livelihood. Recently, outbreaks have occurred in Yili, Xinjiang, and Guiyang, Guizhou. As a result, authorities continue to strengthen restrictive measures.

Currently, many countries around the world are treating COVID as the common flu. As a result, people’s lives and outbound travel have returned to normal. However, China still implements strict lockout and control measures, requiring the eradication of COVID, and people cannot even leave their homes unless necessary. The strict lockout and control measures have led many to criticize the Chinese regime. Some in the institution suggest that the CCP Central Committee should not continue with the “zero-COVID” policy.

Mei Yi is the nation’s foremost writer, historian, and keynote speaker of China Central Television’s “Forum 100.” He recently posted criticism of the “zero-COVID” policy on Weibo. He said that: “As expected, near the opening day, the outbreak in Shenzhen is becoming more serious, the two areas of Futian, Luohu is adopting semi static management. Rumors have it that a new variant appeared, of which the toxicity remains unknown.

“Over the past three years, I have seen with my own eyes the difficulties in the life of our people. Shops and restaurants have been closed a few times. You can imagine the situation of other very small, and small businesses. I really hope that the local government can stop the epidemic scientifically and have some compassion toward their people.

“I also wish they don’t ever cruelly treat their people, let alone expand epidemic prevention for the sake of their own interests. After all, history is written by the people, and it has been proved that those who disregard the life and death of the people will be purged by history.”
